Makeup rate for foreign postcard (no 1½d existed)

Replaced by ½d KGV in Feb 1915

Wmkbroad.bmp (1622 bytes)        wpe5.jpg (2885 bytes) wpe7.jpg (7217 bytes)

For the two years this value was on issue, large quantities were produced for postcard, newspaper, and ‘make-up’ rates. It was replaced on the 12th February, 1915 by the ½d KGV as part of the intended replacement of the entire Roo series.

Only a single, standard, CA/JBC electro pair was produced and, it only appeared on 1st watermark paper.

Since this denomination was one of the first, if not the first, electro made, the die appears in its initial (Die 1) state.

bulletCoils were issued made up by junctions between the vertical strips of ten.
bulletComplete sheets of 240 stamps (first issue).
bulletExamples are known of inter sheet panes
bulletThin papers found.
bulletLarge and small OS in about equal quantities.

The initial printings of only the ½d 1d 2d & 6d were issued in uncut double-sheets of 240. This is one of the largest inter-sheet pieces remaining in private hands. The only surviving complete sheets are in institutional collections.
